How Betterbunch is managing Australia's new SMS Sender ID rules

Learn what is changing for SMS invitations sent to Australian mobile numbers.

Australia is introducing new anti-scam SMS rules from 1 July 2026. These rules are designed to help customers tell the difference between trusted business messages and scam messages.

To support this change, Betterbunch is now a registered SMS Sender ID.

What is changing?

From now on, SMS invitations sent through Betterbunch to Australian mobile numbers will display betterbunch as the Sender ID.

This means your customers will see Betterbunch at the top of the SMS invitation, rather than a mobile number or your business name.

The invitation will still include your business name in the message itself, so customers know who is asking for feedback.

Why is this changing?

From 1 July 2026, Australian SMS messages sent using a business or organisation name must use a registered Sender ID.

If a Sender ID is not registered, the message may appear as Unverified, which can make customers less likely to trust or interact with it.

Using the registered Betterbunch Sender ID helps keep your SMS invitations trusted, recognisable, and aligned with the new rules.

What will customers see?

Customers with Australian mobile numbers will receive SMS invitations from betterbunch.

The SMS invitation will include:

  • Your business name
  • Your feedback invitation link
  • An unsubscribe URL

The unsubscribe URL replaces the previous STOP to stop message.

Do I need to do anything?

No action is required from you.

Betterbunch has registered its Sender ID and will automatically apply this change to SMS invitations sent to Australian mobile numbers.

Can I use my own registered Sender ID?

If your business has its own registered Sender ID, please let us know.

At this stage, Betterbunch does not have the ability to integrate unique Sender IDs for individual businesses. This is a feature that has been requested, and we may consider introducing it in the future.

If it is something you're interested in, please contact our team so we can add your feedback to our product backlog.
