Create and manage custom invitation templates
Learn how to create, use and delete custom invitations templates that suit your customers journey and brand tone.
Custom invitation templates let you write and save your own SMS or email message, so future invitations use wording that better matches your business and customer journey.
You can create custom templates for both SMS and email invitations.
Create a Custom Template
- Login to your betterbunch account.
-
Open Settings from the bottom left of your dashboard.
- Go to the Invitations tab.
-
Click Select a page to edit, and choose either SMS Template or Email Template.
- Click Select a Template
- Choose + Create Custom Template
- Give your template a name then click Create.
- Add your custom message.
For SMS templates, you can customise your business name and message text.
For email templates, you can customise your sender name, business name, email subject line, and message text. Use Insert Placeholder to add details like recipient name, sender name, business name, or invitation link. - Click Update default SMS template or Update default Email template to save.
Note: Your new custom template will now be used for all future invitations including invitation generated via Automation.
Using an Existing Custom Template
After you create a custom template, it will stay saved in your template dropdown.
Your default template is the message Betterbunch will use for future invitations. You can change your default template at any time by selecting another saved template.
Follow these steps to update your default template:
- Login to your betterbunch account.
-
Open the Settings menu located at the bottom left corner of your dashboard.
-
Navigate to the Invitations tab.
- Click Select a page to edit, and choose either SMS Template or Email Template.

- Select Update default SMS message or Update default email message to save it as your default.

Tips and things to consider
- Pre-written Betterbunch templates cannot be fully edited. If you want to write your own message, create a custom template instead.
- SMS and email templates are managed separately. If you want to use custom wording for both, create one SMS template and one email template.
- Your default template is used for future invitations, including invitations created through Automation.
- Invitations must follow Google's Prohibited and restricted content guidelines. Your custom messages must not offer incentives like free services or vouchers in return for Google reviews.
- Email invitations have no character limit, so feel free to make your email invites as brief or details as you like.
- The email subject line is displayed at the top of the Email preview pane. The email subject for pre-written templates isn't customisable. If you want to customise your email subject line, create a custom email template.
- Only Betterbunch’s pre-written Reward-Led templates can add customers to the Better Rewards draw. Custom templates cannot be used for Better Rewards invitations. Learn more about Better Rewards here.
- Consider signing off the email with your name or the name of someone in your team to give the email a personal touch.
- The 'Reply stop to unsubscribe' message at the base of your invitation is a requirement of the New Zealand Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 and the Australian Spam Act 2003. This line can not be removed.
