How to find or claim your Google Business Profile

This guide will help you track down access or claim ownership of your Google Business Profile

If your business is on Google but you aren't sure who currently manages the profile, don't worry. This is a very common issue. This guide will help you track down access or claim ownership.

Part 1: Check if you already manage the profile

You or someone on your team might already have access. To check:

  1. Go to business.google.com/locations

  2. Scroll down to see the list of businesses your current Google account manages

  3. If your business isn't there, try logging in with any other Google accounts you own (use the sign-in/sign-out profile picture in the top right corner).

Tip: It is very common for an office@ email or a business owner's personal Gmail account to be linked to the profile.

Part 2: Request ownership of the profile

If you still can't find the right Google account, you can request ownership directly from Google:

  1. Go to business.google.com/create/

  2. Search for your business using the exact name displayed on Google.

  3. Look for your business in the dropdown menu.

Depending on what you see, follow the steps below:

Scenario A: Your business is in the dropdown menu

Select your business. Depending on the current status of the profile, Google will give you one of two options:

  • 'Manage now': Click this button and follow the on-screen prompts. You will be able to verify and manage the profile immediately.

  • 'Request access': Clicking this will alert the current unknown owner. They have 5 days to respond and grant you access. If they ignore the request, Google will email you instructions on how to bypass them and verify your ownership (via phone, video, or postcard).

Scenario B: Your business is NOT in the dropdown menu

If you are a "Service Area Business" (meaning you hide your physical address on Google and visit customers in their homes), your business usually won't appear in this search. It sounds counterintuitive, but here is the workaround to claim it:

  1. Create a new profile: Follow Google's prompts to build a brand new Google Business Profile.

  2. Match the details exactly: You must use the identical business name, phone number, and website as the existing profile you are trying to claim.

  3. Merge them: Once the new profile is created, flag the page as a duplicate to be merged. This prompts Google to combine the two pages and hand ownership over to you. (Note: Google may ask you to complete a standard verification step during this process).
